Sustainability is about improving the quality of life for each and every one of earth’s inhabitants, in a fair and equitable way, for present and future generations.
This means using resources responsibly and efficiently to minimise the demands placed on our planet. In order to be sustainable, there has to be a balance between social justice, environmental protection, economic growth and diversity.
UnitingCare Queensland’s vision for sustainability supports this view, balancing growth, social conscience and our values.
Our organisation has a coordinated approach through the UnitingCare Queensland Sustainability Coordination Team with the purpose of aligning plans and initiatives across the group. The team also identifies opportunities for initiatives that can be undertaken across the whole organisation.
Our work is guided by our sustainability principles.
The sustainability ethos is present in our foundations, as the health and community service provider of the Uniting Church. Sustainability concepts were included in the Uniting Church in Australia’s Inaugural Statement to the Nation 1977.
