Meet Mark
Mark found his way to UnitingCare after realising that the best part of his retail job was working with people. “I got into human services because I really enjoyed the human connection,” he says.

He sees his role as helping Nathan to be his true self. “We encourage him to be who he is. He picks his own clothes, he picks what he wants to do in his life. Everything is tailored to who Nathan is.
“Nathan’s done heaps of things that I’m proud of – getting up on the microphone at the radio station was a really good moment; DJing the awards night was a really proud moment, as well.” - Mark
Mark says Nathan’s confidence and communication skills have improved greatly since he started work at the radio station and as a DJ, but Nathan is not the only one who has been transformed.
“I started out as a volunteer,” he says. “Over the last three years I’ve learnt how to communicate better and be more compassionate. I’m a very different person now, having done this kind of work. It’s the best job that I’ve had, and that’s the goal in life – to have a job you really like.”
